Ask The Grand Master

Question:

I've about had it! My 15 year old son is being bothered almost every day at school. This just continues to escalate; Friday he was actually slammed into a locker! We are desperate; we don't glorify fighting or violence, but enough is enough. What type of Martial Arts would you recommend? - Heather

Answer:
Heather, unfortunately this is a problem many families face.
Facts: Bullies usually don't stop on their own. They enjoy showing off, and proving their power over the victim, especially if the other kids are watching. Although Tae Kwon Do and Judo are both excellent Martial Arts, if you are serious about Self Defense then HAPKIDO is the best choice! Hapkido offeres a number of unique (secret) Self Defense techniques not taught in other styles that are tailor made for your son's situation. Hapkido also stresses humility, self-discipline, self-control, and respect for others

Question:
Our daughter recently attended your 'Tae Kwon Do Gym Class' at her school. Normally she is very shy, and hates sports. She came home thrilled about actually doing the Tae Kwon Do exercises! She also demonstrated some of the Tae Kwon Do moves, and she showed us the board that she broke in front of her whole class! Before taking your class, she would have been terrified to even stand up in front of a group. She is ready to take the "Next Step", and we will be bringing her to your World Martial Arts Academy very soon. She is so excited! We would like to thank you for donating your time teaching Tae Kwon do at our local schools. - Mike & Kelly

Answer:
I'm glad your daughter enjoyed our class; we certainly enjoyed working with the kids at the schools. We look forward to helping her continue to build her confidence level at our Academy

Question:
It's a beautiful day outside, but as usual my son would rather play video games. At 10 years old, he has no interest in baseball or any other sports. However, he seems to be fascinated by the Tae Kwon Do that he sees on television. Would the Study of Martial Arts help get my son off the couch? - Karen

Answer:
Karen, the study of Tae Kwon Do would probably be a perfect fit for your son. The classes are taught in a very well organized and disciplined structure, and emphasize physical activity and personal growth for the individual students, NOT just the team as in group sports. The program will absolutely help motivate yout son, but he will require your assistance. You will need to limit his video tim, and you will need to insure that he attends the Martial Arts classes every week. If you do this and help reinforce the Martial Art lessons of respect and self-discipline at home, I can guarantee that you will see amazing positive changes in your son.
